Our year-round family home was custom designed & completed in Oct. 2003.
If you are interested in slowing down & getting away from the hustle & bustle of city life or providing a health & happy environment for your growing family, this could be the vacation retreat or permanent home you’ve always dreamed of. It could also be a ready made business for now or for the future, should you be interested. There is plenty of space for relaxation & recreation both in & outdoors. The location is idyllic & provides a wonderful opportunity to be part of nature. It is wonderfully peaceful & quiet. We can see our guests relax & de-stress in just minutes of arriving. The comment we hear most frequently from our guests is “Wow, you have a beautiful, one-of-a-kind home & a “million dollar” location.”
We are located in the city of North Bay, but are in a county setting only 15 -20 minutes from the city centre – the best of both worlds. We are approximately 3 ½ - 4 hours from both Toronto via highway 11 & from Ottawa via highway 17. Having lived & worked in the North Bay area since 2003, we highly recommend the friendly, casual, slower paced lifestyle of Ontario’s Near North region. It’s a great place to live.
Our property is a one-of-a-kind 2.8 acre wooded lot & is situated on a point on beautiful Trout Lake. On one side of the point we have 228 ft of water frontage on Four Mile Bay and on the other we are bordered by Grassy Bay & 6 acres of protected wildlife space. We are only 100 ft away from the water’s edge on the Four Mile Bay side & 40 ft away on the Grassy Bay side, making this a truly idyllic location. The winding laneway is level & is 534 ft. from the road providing a very private, secluded location.
With vacationers & travelers in mind we chose this location for our bed & breakfast for its waterfront location on beautiful Trout Lake & it’s proximity to Lake Nipissing. Both lakes boast great boating, swimming & fishing both summer & winter. Biking & hiking are right outside our doors & within a short distance guests can enjoy a good round of golf, x-country & downhill skiing. Shopping & restaurants are within 10 km. Provincial & Federal Parks are close by & we are within easy traveling distance to Algonquin Park.
This 3 ½ year old home is open concept & has more than 3550 sq. ft. of finished living space, lots of windows & doors. The rooms are bright & spacious & were designed to capitalize on the view in all seasons. The main level is carpet free with low maintenance high quality laminate flooring & ceramic.
The large custom kitchen which overlooks the great room has oak cabinetry with many upgrades such as slide out drawers & a pantry unit, built-in appliances & a large refrigerator. From the kitchen there is access to a large deck overlooking the lake for those that enjoy the sun & the BBQ. (There is also access to this deck from one of the guest rooms). The great-room has a Napoleon™ wood burning fireplace stove & double French doors which open out onto the wrap around covered verandah. Guests can enjoy breakfast in the charming semi-circular windowed eat-in area of the kitchen which also overlooks the lake, or in the formal separate dining room which overlooks Four Mile Bay. Off the kitchen is a side entry which leads to the very convenient main floor laundry/mud room with a space saving stacking washer/dryer, built-in sink & cabinetry which provides plenty of storage.
There are 4 +1 bedrooms & 4 full baths. The master bedroom has a plenty of windows, a wonderful view of the lake & a private door leading out onto the wrap-around verandah. There is an en-suite 3 piece bath & walk-in closet. The main bathroom has floor-to-ceiling ceramic tiles, a custom mirror treatment & Jacuzzi tub with shower. This bathroom can also become a cheater en-suite to the 2nd main floor bedroom. The 3rd main floor bedroom has a 3 piece en-suite bath, a private entry& a sliding glass door that leads out onto the deck overlooking Grassy Bay. Off the foyer, there is a room with French doors, which may be used as a 4th bedroom/media room/office.
The downstairs is completely finished. There is a family room with wet bar, games room, mechanical room & plenty of storage. There is also a very large bright 5th bedroom which has created a niche for us. There are no other B&B’s in the area that can accommodate families who don’t mind staying together to economize. For those not considering a bed and breakfast, the downstairs area would provide an excellent walk-up in-law set up.

We have been operating Birches & Breezes B & B since April 2004. It has been very successful & continues to get busier each year. We have many repeat visitors who return for the idyllic location & the opportunity to relax on the dock or the verandah & unwind. It is a very peaceful setting. We have met the most wonderful people who have come from all around the world to stay with us. We do love living here so it’s with mixed feelings that we leave it behind & move closer to our family & grandchildren
